Date Rape

Date rape refers to first degree sexual assault or forcible sexual intercourse with someone the victim is familiar with. This is called date rape because of the high incidence of rape occurring with an individual whom the victim is romantically involved with. Date rape always involves someone the victim knows and trusts. The perpetrator uses this position of trust to take advantage of the victim and exercise power over them. This type of rape may be difficult to prove because it is difficult to find hard evidence to prove the sexual intercourse was not consensual.
